SLEEPERCAR TO PLAY OSHEAGA!
Tuesday July 29th, 2008
Sleepercar, El Paso’s favourite upcoming alt-country rockers have been added to Osheaga! Fronted by Jim Ward of Sparta, Sleepercar is quite a departure from the former’s punk-tinged progressive-rock. We look forward to their performance August 3rd at Osheaga!

T-SHIRT DESIGN CONTEST WINNER
Tuesday July 29th, 2008
Congratulations to Maxime for winning Osheaga’s inaugural t-shirt design contest! Maxime’s work caught our eye immediately, and we are looking forward to printing his t-shirt for this year’s festival.
We at Osheaga would like to thank those who worked hard and submitted their awesome designs. We understand the amount of time that can be spent on developing a strong design and were overwhelmed with the response to this contest. Over the past weeks, we received some really amazing t-shirt art and deciding on a winner was a difficult task.
CHAIRS ALLOWED ON SITE
Tuesday July 29th, 2008
Please take note that for your festival viewing comfort, portable chairs are permitted on the Osheaga site (camping chairs, foldable lawn chairs, etc).
PLANTS & ANIMALS / THE WEAKERTHANS NOMINATED FOR POLARIS PRIZE!
Wednesday July 16th, 2008
![]()
Osheaga would like to congratulate Plants & Animals and The Weakerthans on their nominations for this year’s Polaris Music Prize. We are proud to have these first-rate artists performing at our festival and we welcome you to visit www.polarismusicprize.ca for more information about how tremendous this prize is for Canadian music.
![]()
In an interesting piece of Canadian music trivia, since it’s inauguration in 2006, both previous winners of the Polaris prize played Osheaga in their winning year (Final Fantasy in ’06 and Patrick Watson in ’07). With that in mind, it seems the odds are stacked in favour of these two acts playing Osheaga 2008. Good luck to them both!

SALON DES ARTS UPDATE
Wednesday July 16th, 2008
Shedding light on emerging artists and international contemporary art shakers, this year's exhibition is a hyperactive, fork-the-toaster shift from the draperies of the white, halogen-lit gallery wall.
A group exhibition highlighting recent or site-specific works by Stefan Sagmeister, Siebren Versteeg, The Sanchez Brothers, William Betts, Mumbleboy, the YPF and others, the Salon des Arts is bringing the venue to life with works that compel us to commit to a new window on indoor/outdoor integrated space.
CAUSES TO CHECK OUT
Wednesday July 16th, 2008
Every year, Osheaga is delighted to host a number of non-profit organizations supporting causes the festival believes in. Here is a little more information about two that you will find on-site at Osheaga 2008!
Engineers Without Borders (EWB)
Founded in 2000, EWB is a non-governmental organization devoted to international development. Its mission is "to promote human development through access to technology". Importantly, EWB works overseas (primarily in sub-Saharan Africa) with local NGOs and, occasionally, government departments to help increase access to technology at the local level. The focus is on access to technology largely through local capacity-building rather than on technologies themselves.
Action Contre la Faim (ACF)
ACF is an international relief and development organization committed to saving the lives of malnourished children and families while seeking long-term, sustainable solutions to hunger. Recognized as a world leader in the fight against hunger and malnutrition, ACF specializes in responding to emergency situations of war, conflict, and natural disaster. Their innovative programs in nutrition, water and sanitation, food security, health care, and advocacy reach more than 5 million people in over 40 countries, helping vulnerable populations regain their self-sufficiency.
ARTIST UPDATE: N*E*R*D, METRIC, AND MORE!
Tuesday July 8th, 2008
Sunday, August 3rd
N*E*R*D
![]()
Hot off the heels of a new album and appearances at a host of North American and European festivals, Pharrell Williams, Chad Hugo, and Shae are joining us at Osheaga 2008! Also known for their work with a lengthy “who’s who” list of artists including Madonna, Justin Timberlake, and Gwen Stefani as the production duo Neptunes, N*E*R*D will bring their killer live show to Parc Jean-Drapeau on August 3rd.
METRIC
![]()
Following up on their DVD Live at Metropolis, METRIC’s love affair with Montreal continues as they return to Osheaga Sunday, August 3rd! A smash hit at Osheaga 2006, Emily Haines & Co. return for what promises to be yet another memorable performance at this year’s festival.
SEBASTIEN GRAINGER & THE MOUNTAINS
The former front man of Death From Above 1979 leads this rockin’ four-piece. The result of a solo record that saw Grainger play basically every instrument and tweak every knob in the process, Sebastien Grainger & The Mountains have been touring machines. In the past year they have criss-crossed the continent and have been converting fans everywhere they go.
www.myspace.com/sebastiengrainger
LUKE DOUCET & THE WHITE FALCON
Canadian singer-songwriter Luke Doucet will also be joining Osheaga on Sunday, August 3rd. With seven albums released over his career (three with the band Veal), Doucet’s latest offering Blood’s Too Thick was released in January. We are delighted to have the Juno-nominated artist join us at this year’s festival.
PAYZ PLAY
After nine years in super collective Atach Tatuq, four Montreal hip-hop veterans have united to form Payz Play. With slick grooves and driving jams, this quartet has wasted no time in establishing themselves as a top quality hip-hop crew.
THE WOODEN SKY
Since releasing their debut EP to a sold out crowd at the legendary Horseshoe Tavern in their hometown of Toronto, the indie-folk sensations have showed no signs of slowing down. A timeless mix of banjos, guitars, and graveled voice, in the past year the band has shared the stage with the likes of Cuff the Duke, Osheaga alumni ohbijou and Final Fantasy, and fellow Osheaga 2008 artist Sebastien Grainger.
Monday, August 4th
ESKER MICA
With smooth indie rhythms and entrancing melodies, Montreal based Esker Mica are sure to turn some heads during their performance. We are delighted to have this rising Québécois act perform and we are eager to see them share their sound with Osheaga fans.
SHAWN HEWITT & THE NATIONAL STRIKE
With an amazing range of vibes from smooth to frantic, Shawn Hewitt makes songs that are genuinely captivating. This is pop with a progressive twist that is fresh and exciting, leaving us thrilled to have the Toronto based act performing on August 4th.
CHRIS VELAN
Osheaga loves to embrace the abundance of high-quality homegrown talent Montreal has to offer. In this light, we welcome Chris Velan and his folk-reggae tracks to the lineup. With his next release slated for October, expect to see him in top form!
www.myspace.com/chrisvelanmusic
ROBERTSON
The voice behind Montreal favourites Bullfrog, Robertson’s sound is a soulful blend of slick grooves, tight arrangements, and a whole lotta funk. The self-proclaimed crafter of “baby-making music” is sure to have the crowd bumpin’ and grindin’ when he hits the Osheaga stage.

Artist Update! Foals, Eddy Grant, La Patère Rose, Rogue Wave, The Enemy UK, Radio Radio...
Thursday June 12th, 2008

British act Foals have the kind of sound that is hard to put a label on. While they may have been associated with countless genres, only one thing matters: they know how to get people dancing and having a good time. Hot off the release of their full length record entitled “Antidotes”, Osheaga is proud to have Foals joining the party on Sunday, August 3rd.

www.myspace.com/lapatererose
ROGUE WAVE – August 4th
Indie rock/pop quartet Rogue Wave has been growing by leaps and bounds with each release. Artist Update! The Kills / Booka Shade / Spiritualized / RPC Join Osheaga / ...The Duke Spirit Cancels
Wednesday June 11th, 2008
SPIRITUALIZED - August 3rd
Jason Pierce’s brainchild, Spiritualized, are back in Montreal after a
five year hiatus and join Osheaga August 3rd at Parc Jean-Drapeau.
Pierce (aka J. Spaceman) has made a name for himself writing melodies
that soar over atmospheric arrangements grounded only by his uncanny
pop sensibility. A longtime favourite of UK music fans, Spiritualized
are back to take North America on a one of a kind space-ride.
BOOKA SHADE - August 3rd
Berlin electrohouse duo Booka Shade are here to provide some sweet
electro-beats to the festival. Anyone who has seen these guys live know
they know how to party! Members Walter Merziger and Arno Kammermeier
are skipping across the Atlantic from a busy European tour that sees
them playing everywhere from Dublin to Serbia to Norway to play a
handful of North American dates. Osheaga is proud to have Booka Shade
join us on Sunday, August 3rd.
THE KILLS - August 4th
Hot on the heels of a sold out show at Montreal’s Cabaret du Musée
Juste Pour Rire, The Kills are locked in as one of the newest additions
to Osheaga. The unlikely and über-stylish duo of Florida native Alison
“VV” Mosshart and London’s Jamie "Hotel" Hince bring their killer live
show (sorry, we couldn’t resist!) to Osheaga Monday, August 4th.
ROCK PLAZA CENTRAL - August 4th
Toronto folk-rock collective Rock Plaza Central will be joining their
tour mates Plants and Animals on the Osheaga 2008 roster. Their
timeless sound has been garnering much critical acclaim from sources
both expected and unusual– critics from music site Pitchfork to Jonah
Hill (yes, of Superbad fame) have jumped on the Rock Plaza Central
bandwagon – er, should we say band buggy. Expect a good ole time when
this energetic seven-piece hits the Osheaga stage!
THE DUKE SPIRIT Cancels

Tuesday July 8th, 2008
Gillett Entertainment Group presents the 3rd edition of the Osheaga
Music and Arts Festival that will take place on August 3rd and 4th at
the magnificent Parc Jean-Drapeau.
Over 40 bands will share 4 stages set upon the breath-taking backdrop
of Montreal's Parc Jean-Drapeau where the diversity of indie rock and
the best of electro will be on display. We are proud to continue our
partnership with the Montreal MEG Festival (Montreal Eclectic Groove)
which is celebrating its 10th edition this year and will offer us its
musical discoveries on their stage.
This year we have the pleasure to announce that the headliners are the
multi-platinum selling band THE KILLERS on August 3rd and making his

leader Brandon Flowers and the quartet's intense rock will give you an
earful.
The Hawaiian-born musician, filmmaker and surfer, Jack Johnson, will
make his long-awaited debut in Montreal. His latest album Sleep Through
the Static, has already sold over 2 million copies since its release on
