The vibrant city of Montreal is situated on a group of islands located at the confluence of the St- Lawrence and Ottawa Rivers. There are about 75 small islands and islets in that agglomeration, and The Osheaga Festival site is located on the St- Helene Island, which is part of the Parc Jean Drapeau. The island site has served as fishing site of the Iroquois, a garrison for the British Navy in the 1700’s, and in modern times for “Expo 67”, the worlds fair, and the 2005 world aquatic championships. The Parc Jean Drapeau is easily accessible by Metro (subway), ferry, bicycle paths and by car. The park offers some of the most stunning views of Montreal, the Old Port and the St. Lawrence River.
The Parc Jean Drapeau is a veritable open-air art gallery, in which works of public art and Architecture may be admired including: Alexander Calder’s “Man”, Buckminster Fuller's Geodesic Dome, and Sebasitien’s “Puerta de la Amistad” among others.
