OSHEAGA is thrilled to announce the detailed schedule for the festival!
Now you can plan your great weekend of arts and music on the island with the interactive schedule. And don’t forget the OSHEAGA in the City shows that take place starting Wednesday, July 27 and OSHEAGA Arts exhibitions that start on July 6.
Once again, several of the artists performing at the festival are on the long list for the prestigious Polaris Music Prize, which, like OSHEAGA, celebrates and supports Canadian music. Those groups on the long list are: Braids, Galaxie, Hey Rosetta!, The Luyas, Malajube, PS I Love You, The Rural Alberta Advantage and Timber Timbre.
Adding to the entertainment on the Saturday night will be the fireworks competition at La Ronde which will light up the skies during performances by Elvis Costello & the Imposters, Bassnectar, Fucked Up & Girl Unit. The fireworks theme that night? Appropriately, it’s The Beatles!
We’ve also added a few more bands to round out the bill:
222s – Saturday July 30
The Sheepdogs – Sunday, July 31
The Sherlocks – Sunday, July 31
The OSHEAGA Music & Arts Festival will once again bring the OSHEAGA experience right into the city and feature several concerts in venues around town as part of the week’s events.
As early as Wednesday, July 27 the bass-driven Glitch Mob will hit Société des arts technologiques along with trip-pop duo Phantogram and the synth-obsessed Com Truise for a pre-party sure to get you dancing.
The official kick-off is Thursday, July 28 at the Corona Theatre with the indie-pop polyrhythms of Freedom or Death and the techno beats of Jokers of the Scene.
On Saturday night, July 30, once the rocking has concluded on the island (Parc Jean-Drapeau), revelers can continue the revelry at the Olympia Theatre at midnight with multi-talented James Murphy and Pat Mahoney’sSpecial Disco Version. Murphy created the label DFA, founded LCD Soundsystem (with Mahoney as drummer), has scored music for films, engineered albums, as well as DJing. Multi-talented doesn’t even begin to describe what he can do.

OSHEAGA has added another slew of performers to its 3-day festival roster, which already features Eminem, Elvis Costello, The Flaming Lips, The Tragically Hip, Death Cab for Cutie, Cypress Hill, Death From Above 1979 and a myriad of groups, making the this the must-see, must-experience music event of the summer.
Now, in addition to a music-lover’s already-packed collection, fans can see: Multi-talented rapper Lupe Fiasco, who has collaborated with Jay-Z, Kanye West, Pharrell Williams and B.o.B. among many others; bluesy-folky Canadian trio Timber Timbre, winner of the 2009 Eye Weekly Album of the Year; multi-award winning Brit Ellie Goulding, who received raves for her appearance on Saturday Night Live this weekend and the only performer who can claim to have grabbed the coveted role of performer to Prince William and Kate Middleton at their wedding last month. Also joining the OSHEAGA experience: Egyptrixx, Glass Candy, Frightened Rabbit, Sam Adams, Dillon Francis, The Barr Brothers, Comis Strip, El Ten Eleven, Sweet Thing, Anita Tijoux, MC2, Seb Diamond and DuVall.
With this much talent to offer OSHEAGA 2011 expands to a THREE-DAY event on the island. Friday, Saturday & Sunday July 29, 30 & 31, 2011; 3 entire days of festivities on 5 different stages featuring more than 70 acts. Today, OSHEAGA adds even more surprises to the artist roster announced last week. See our lineup tab for more info. Added to the line-up:
Cali rappers Cypress Hill will pay OSHEAGA an incredibly rare visit; after a stellar breakthrough year, Janelle Monae will perform for the first time in Quebec; and indie darlings Broken Social Scene are back after launching their Forgiveness Rock Record in a sold-out Metropolis. Also added: prolific iconoclast Joseph Arthur, Daptone Records soul revivalist Charles Bradley, sharp beat-maker Baths, electro-pop songstress Oh Land, garage rockers Uncle Bad Touch, as well as Stones Throw’s own funk savior, DâM Funk, on the Piknic stage. Also on the roster: Rural Alberta Advantage, An Horse, Jacques Greene, Midway State, A-Rock and Shaydakiss. And that’s not it; we promise more announcements to complete this epic line up!
Osheaga 2011 expands to a three-day event!

Eminem, Elvis Costello & The Imposters, The Flaming Lips play The Soft Bulletin, Death Cab for Cutie, The Tragically Hip, Death From Above 1979, Kid Cudi, Bright Eyes, City and Colour, Ratatat, Karkwa, Sam Roberts Band, Malajube, Beirut, Bran Van 3000, Crystal Castles, Bassnectar, MSTRKRFT, John Butler Trio, The Sounds, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Sia, Jamie xx, Claude Von Stroke, Eels, Yoav, Mountain Goats, Fucked Up, White Lies, Braids, Hey Rosetta!, Lights, Robot Koch, Shad, Manchester Orchestra, Twin Shadow, Anna Calvi, Smith Westerns, Tokyo Police Club, Jimmy Hunt, Galaxie, PS I Love You, Mother Mother, Suuns, The Joy Formidable, Brother, Natalia Kills, Girl Unit, The Low Anthem, The Luyas, Elephant Stone, The High Dials, Passwords, Jesuslesfilles, Typhoon
Nothing compares to summertime in Montreal and there’s no close competition to an OSHEAGA weekend – THE cultural reference for what’s hot and up-and-coming in the current music scene. For its sixth edition, OSHEAGA once again celebrates a stellar collection of the best artists from around the world. And Piknic Electronik will have festival-goers dancing all through the day and night at the Piknic stage, a huge hit in 2010.
Montrealers will once again be spoiled by OSHEAGA’s generous offering: hip-hop superstar Eminem will be playing a first show in over a decade; post-punk and new-wave icon Elvis Costello will be showing the youngsters how it’s done; The Flaming Lips will be celebrating a return to the festival with their classic album The Soft Bulletin; a rebanded Death from Above 1979 will no doubt knock everyone’s socks off; Karkwa, Malajube, Bran Van 3000 and the Sam Roberts Band will be representing our dear city’s talent; not to mention favorites like Kid Cudi, The Tragically Hip, Death Cab for Cutie, Bright Eyes, Ratatat, Beirut and so many more!
Far enough away from the busy city streets, yet only a metro-ride away; it’s a great chance to hang out and relax, chill out on the hill, and discover a ton of new bands just before they become The Next Big Thing. (Bands such as The Black Keys, La Roux, Lykke Li have all played OSHEAGA and then returned to Montreal to headline their own shows once they were discovered by Montreal fans.)
Nick Farkas, Director of Talent Buying for evenko, and founder of OSHEAGA doesn’t need to hide his excitement about this year’s festival. “We are very excited to be able to expand to 3 days. In keeping with Osheaga tradition we have worked hard to come with a lineup that will speak to a wide range of music-lovers.”
